Maughan and Maughan client no longer facing death penalty

A client of Maughan and Maughan LC is currently facing RICO (racketeering) related charges which accuse him of crimes which the government claim were committed to support and aid the Crips, a supposed street gang which, at least in the Wichita area, is a diffuse and disorganized group, and which the government maintains is an organized and structured criminal enterprise.

The government had previously filed an indictment which gave notice of the possibility that the government would seek the death penalty against out client. Apparently, however, our client is no longer facing capital punishment.

After months of representation in which we pressured the prosecutors to provide some evidence as to why the government believed that our client was involved in a capital crime, the government has finally filed a superceding indictment which removes the notice that our client may be facing the death penalty. This move apparently indicates that the government has chosen not to procede with any attempt to seek the death penaltly against our client.

While the fight goes on, it appears that this battle has gone in favor of Maughan and Maughan LC and our client.
